WINTHROP, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) placed 34 student-athletes on the 2018-19 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Academic All-Conference Team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
In order to be eligible for the league's academic all-conference squad, a student-athlete must obtain a 3.25 cumulative GPA and have reached second-year academic status. Across the entire GNAC, a total of 1,030 student-athletes were named to the 2018-19 GNAC Academic All-Conference Team, an increase of 22 from the 2017-18 Academic All-Conference Team.
Saint Joseph's College of Maine paced the conference's selections with 115, followed by Johnson & Wales University with 110. Regis College (104) and Lasell College (101) also reached triple digits among the selections, while single-gender Simmons University placed an impressive 89 on this year's team. The USJ softball team, who most recently captured the 2019 GNAC Softball Championship to earn the seventh GNAC title in school history, boasted 11 student-athletes on the 2018-19 GNAC Academic All-Conference Team to lead the Blue Jays. Women's swimming and diving had the second-most with eight student-athletes, while women's lacrosse was third with five.
