Soccer Team Ranked 14th in New England; Highest Ever
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The University of Saint Joseph soccer team received its highest-ever ranking Monday, finishing 14th in the weekly National Soccer Coaches Association of America New England Regional poll.
USJ’s only previous ranking in the NSCAA poll came last week, when the Blue Jays made their first-ever appearance in the poll at No. 15.
“It’s a great accomplishment for the program to be recognized with this group of schools,” Saint Joseph coach Chris LeGates said. “At the end of the day, where we finish in November is what we’re most focused on. But we appreciate that what we’ve done has been recognized and we’ll keep working hard to achieve our goals.
Amherst (6-0-1) and Middlebury (6-0-1) tied for the top spot with Wheaton (9-0-2), Brandeis (9-1) and Williams (5-2) rounding out the top five.
Saint Joseph (7-1-1) hosts Lasell (9-1), ranked 13th in the region, Wednesday at 4 p.m. Lasell is first and USJ second in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference standings.
