WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman forward Jake Sullivan (Branford, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team was selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, it was announced the conference front office on Monday afternoon. It marks the first GNAC Rookie of the Week selection for Sullivan in his career as he becomes the sixth different Blue Jay to garner the accolade this season. USJ has been the recipient of the Rookie of the Week award eight times through the first eleven weeks of the 2018-19 basketball season.
Sullivan had a career night to lead the Blue Jays to a 104-93 win over GNAC foe Rivier on the road Saturday in USJ's lone game of the week. The Branford native and recently named co-captain erupted for his first career double-double finishing with a career-high 23 points and career-high 10 rebounds in the win. He also added three assists. Sullivan was extremely efficient from the floor sinking 8-of-13 (61.5%) field goal attempts, including 2-of-4 (50.0%) from beyond the arc. He also hit 5-of-6 (83.3%) shots from the charity stripe en route to the victory.
Sullivan and the Blue Jays will play at home inside the O'Connell Center in a huge GNAC matchup on Thursday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m when they host defending GNAC champion Johnson & Wales University.
