Men's Swim Falls To Trinity, 132-72

HARTFORD, Conn.— The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming and diving team were knocked off by the Trinity College Bantams, 132-72, in the final dual meet of the regular season Friday night.

Sophomore Jacob Wyse (Broad Brook, Conn.) led the way for the Blue Jays once again, claiming the only victory in the 500 Freestyle. He also placed second in the 100 Backstroke. The Bantams jumped ahead early and never looked back, taking the win on their senior night.

Saint Joseph returns to the pool for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships on Friday, January 31 at a time to be announced. The three-day meet will be held at the Wellesley Sports Center, on the campus of Wellesley College, in Wellesley, Mass.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Wyse won the 500 Freestyle in a photo finish, touching the wall in 5:25.9 seconds, just over a third of a second ahead of second place. It was a much-needed victory for USJ and Wyse, who earlier had been on the other side of a tight finish, taking second in the 100 Back by less than half a second.
  • Sophomore captain Jack Monroe (Waterbury, Conn.) had a personal best in the 50 Free, placing fifth with a time of 27.67 seconds, less than three seconds off a podium finish.

173.31 – Freshman Zachary Nielsen (Berlin, Conn.) continues to work on his one and three-meter dives, capturing a score of 173.31 in his one-meter dive Friday.
