Records Fall As Men's Swim & Dive Excels At Colby-Sawyer Friday

NEW LONDON, N.H.– The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming and diving team was victorious Friday night in record-breaking fashion, 152-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) dual meet inside Knight Natatorium on the campus of Colby-Sawyer College.

Two men's records were broken Friday, headlined by senior captain Jacob Wyse (Broad Brook, Conn.), who could not have broken the record by a slimmer margin, taking the 50-Yard Butterfly in 25.21 seconds, besting his previous near two-year old record by .01 seconds. It was one of four wins for Wyse on the evening, who also dominated the 400 Individual Medley (IM) with a final time of 4:45.49 (over 27 seconds out in front), and the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:14.51 (nearly 27 seconds ahead). Wyse wrapped things up with another new school record, the 800 Free Relay, this one shared with a flocking Blue Jays foursome. Wyse was joined by junior Aaron Gauvin (Berlin, Conn.), senior captain Brendan Lynch (Watertown, Conn.) and junior Maksym Ugrak (Newington, Conn.), as they touched the wall in 8:26.48 to establish a new school record, nearly 40 seconds ahead of the second relay team.

COACH QUOTE [Brenda Straker]  "The men really impressed us this evening. So happy to see they improved their record to 5-1. We also had time drops across the board tonight, which is a positive sign. The broken records are a testament to the efforts by these swimmers in practice. I am looking for peak performances to culminate at the Connecticut Cup to finish out the first semester."

The Blue Jays have a few weeks to prepare before setting their sights on the almighty Connecticut Cup, a multi-team event held at Wesleyan University on Saturday, December 4, at 2:00 p.m.
