WXC Takes 6th, MXC 7th in Trinity Invitational

MANCHESTER, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) cross country teams placed sixth on the women's side, and seventh on the men's side Saturday afternoon in the Trinity College Invitational at Wickham Park.

Coast Guard secured an impressive 1-2 photo finish in the women's event, as sophomore Laurel Felt and junior Kaitlyn Mooney were separated by just one tenth of a second at the line, Felt just ahead of Mooney. Coast Guard also placed four of its runners in the top-10, and all five in the top-11. Its low score of 32 was more than enough to stay ahead of runner-up and invitational host Trinity College, who finished with 55 points. Smith rounded out the podium with 64.

The Blue Jays placed sixth (209 points), as freshman Morgan Hall (Norfolk, Conn.) led the way, crossing the line 62nd of 87 runners, with a final time of 25:29 (8:13 mile pace). Freshman Emily Wassick (Granby, Conn.), was not far behind, placing 65th with a 25:54 (8:21 mile pace).

American International College Freshman Titus Kiptoo dominated on the men's side, crossing the line more than 20 seconds ahead of second-place Weyessa McAlister of Trinity College. It was enough to narrowly escape Trinity in the overall, taking it by a single point, 39-40. Franklin Pierce completed the podium with 48 points.

The Blue Jays placed seventh (204 points), as freshman David Kavanaugh (West Hartford, Conn.) was the high finisher, placing 42nd of 86 runners with a time of 19:00.1 seconds (6:07 mile pace). Sophomore team captain Eric Knox (Bristol, Conn.) finished 59th with a 19:51.9 (6:24 mile pace).
