WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman Amaria Sharon (Tolland, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph softball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league's front office. Sharon helped power the Blue Jays both offensively and in the circle to a 3-3 week as they opened the season at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex in Little River, S.C.
Sharon wasted little time making a huge impact on the USJ softball team across her first six collegiate games helping power the Blue Jays to a 3-3 mark over the weekend at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic. Offensively, the rookie led the team and registered a .733 batting average after collecting 11 hits over her first 15 at-bats, while driving in five RBI and scoring seven runs. She also swiped a pair of bases.
In the circle, Sharon spun 17 innings and allowed just six earned runs to post a 2.47 ERA for the week. She twirled two complete games, including a 6-0 shutout in the first game over Principia on Sunday. She struck out 14 total batters and finished the weekend 2-1 across four appearances.

She also earned the win on the mound firing five innings, scattering two hits and allowing two runs (both unearned) with five strikeouts. Sharon had possibly her best performance both offensively and defensively in the 6-0 win over Principia College in game one on Sunday. The Tolland, CT product finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored, while also picking up the win in a complete game five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts.
