WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman Amaria Sharon (Tolland, Conn.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher and Co-Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference front office. It marks the third time this season that Sharon has been tabbed the Rookie of the Week, while she picks up Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
In a 5-0 week (4-0 GNAC) for the Blue Jays, freshman right-handed hurler Amaria Sharon earned the win inside the circle in all five games to improve her record on the season to a GNAC-best 10-2. Across 25.1 innings pitched for the week, the rookie allowed just two earned runs, resulting in a minuscule 0.55 ERA, while lowering her ERA on the season to a league-leading 1.65. She struck out 16 against just three walks and held opposing batters to a .223 batting average against. The Tolland, CT product went the distance in all three of her starts, highlighted by a three-hit shutout in the first game of a GNAC doubleheader against Mount Ida on Sunday.
At the plate, Sharon hit .500 (8-for-16) for the week to keep her spot atop the GNAC batting average list at .563 for the year. The rookie slugger posted a .500/.556/.813 slash line, belting three of her eight hits for extra bases, including her second home run of the season, a three-run blast, in a come-from-behind 10-6 victory over Elms on Wednesday. She reached base at least twice in all five games, drove in six RBI and scored five runs, while also going 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. She is currently on a 16-game hitting streak, recording a base knock in every game that she has played in so far this year.
