Sharon, Milardo Receive Softball All-Conference Honors

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.— The 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball All-Conference Teams were announced Tuesday afternoon, and two members of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) softball team, junior Amaria Sharon (Tolland, Conn.), and sophomore Alessandra Milardo (Plantsville, Conn.) were recognized with the honor.

Sharon, who is graduating as a junior, made the All-GNAC First Team at second base, where she did most of her work when not in the circle, finishing the season with a 1.000 conference fielding percentage (49 for 49 chances), and a .959 fielding percentage overall, with just five errors in 114 chances.

At the plate, Sharon led the Blue Jays in virtually every category (AB, R, H, 2B, AVG, OBP, SLG), on her way to setting career-highs in home runs (2), doubles (11), and runs (31), hitting .431 overall (4th GNAC). Sharon also led the GNAC in hits.

Sharon made All-GNAC Second Team as a pitcher, where she went 10-5 inside the circle with 10 complete games, and a save in 19 appearances. Her 2.48 ERA was the third lowest in the GNAC, and her 10 wins were tied for fourth. Sharon threw four complete games (two shutouts), a 1.25 ERA, in route to a perfect 4-0 in the GNAC Tournament, and USJ's third conference championship in school history. Sharon was awarded the 2019 GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Milardo was recognized as a member of the All-GNAC Sportsmanship Team, joining just 10 other players who received the honor. As a pitcher and outfielder, Milardo hit .307 with six doubles (fifth on the team), 10 RBI and 18 runs in her sophomore season. She led the way at the plate for the Blue Jays in the pivotal close-out game of the GNAC Championship, hitting 2-for-3 with a double, single, stolen base, and two runs scored. USJ went on to win, 3-0.
