SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior Kayla Guest (Newington, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph women's basketball team was tabbed to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Honor Roll, it was announced by the organization's front office on Monday afternoon. Guest, who was also named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Honor Roll this afternoon, helped lead the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week after averaging 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists across the pair of games.
Guest powered the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week, including a 1-0 start in GNAC action. The veteran averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 43.8% (14-32) from the field. She also converted at a 68.4% (13-19) clip from the free throw line. In a 74-70 come-from-behind victory over Mitchell College on the road Wednesday, Guest poured in 26 points including 16 in the first half to keep USJ within striking distance. She finished the game with 10 more points in the second half to help ignite a 14-point comeback win and also added eight rebounds and four steals in 30 minutes of action. Guest followed that up with a game-high 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds to post her second double-double of the season in a 57-52 win over Lasell in USJ's GNAC opener at home on Saturday. The forward also added a game-high seven assists in 28 minutes of floor time.
The Newington product is currently leading the team in scoring (16.9 ppg), rebounding (8.4 rpg), assists (3.4 apg) and steals (2.9 spg) over the first seven games of the 2017-18 season. She is also just 65 points shy of becoming the eighth 1,000-point scorer in USJ women's basketball history.
Guest and the rest of the USJ women's basketball team will look to keep things rolling when they travel to Johnson & Wales next for a key GNAC tilt with the Wildcats on Saturday, Dec. 9. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
