Lacrosse Drops GNAC Game at Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. – University of Saint Joseph junior Erika Leitao (Southington, Conn.) scored three goals, but the Blue Jays dropped a 16-6 Great Northeast Athletic Conference game Wednesday night at Mount Ida.

Mount Ida improved to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the GNAC. Saint Joseph is 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the GNAC.

Dayna Gambino (Newington, Conn.) scored two goals and Eliza Doane (Suffield, Conn.) one for St. Joseph and Francesca Mastria (Higganum, Conn.) had two assists.

Maile Melvin broke the ice for Mount Ida with the game's first goal, 6:11 into the contest and Leitao quickly answered with her first score of the night, 36 seconds later to tie the score. But the Mustangs established control for good by scoring the next seven goals on the way to a 10-3 halftime lead.

Saint Joseph hosts Rivier Sat. April 6 at 1 p.m.
