Lacrosse Beats Anna Maria, 18-2

PAXTON, Mass. – University of Saint Joseph junior Dayna Gambino (Newington, Conn.) tied a single-game school record with seven goals and added two assists as the Blue Jays defeated Anna Maria 18-2 Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game.

Gambino also scored seven goals in a game last season and teammate Rachel Foster (Newington, Conn.) has also done it twice.

USJ improved to 3-4 overall and is 2-2 in the GNAC. Anna Maria fell to 0-8 and 0-6 in the conference.

Gambino scored the first goal just 26 seconds into the game and the Blue Jays had leads of 4-0 and 7-1 on the way to a 12-2 halftime advantage.

Foster and Erik Leitao (Southington, Conn.) had big games with four goals and four assists each. Vicky Thai (West Hartford, Conn.) scored twice for the Blue Jays and Kim Royer (Rocky Hill, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal. Anne Pitoniak (West Haven, Conn.) made four saves in goal for USJ.

St. Joseph returns to action, Mon. April 7 when it hosts Lasell in a GNAC game beginning at 4 p.m.
