WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Saint Joseph senior Patricia Nolan (Portland, Conn.) had two goals and Courtney Cesca (Winsted, Conn.) added one as the USJ soccer team defeated Bay Path 3-0 Monday in a non-conference game at St. Joseph.
USJ improved to 3-2; Bay Path is 2-3.
USJ scored all its goals in the first half. Nolan took a through ball from Keeley Martin (Scotland, Conn.) in the box and scored her first goal of the day, 8:20 in. In the 25th minute, Nicole Mendelson (Southbury, Conn.) had a shot from inside the box that hit the left post and bounded across the goalmouth where Nolan tapped it in for her second tally of the day.
Nolan's second goal was the 50th of her career and she has 117 career points as she extended both of her school records. Cesca one-timed a laser shot from the 18 at 31:25 to complete the scoring.
Melissa Dodge (Watertown, Conn.) made three saves for her third shutout of the season. USJ outshot Bay Path, 37-5 and 18-0 in the first half. The Blue Jays also had a 12-1 edge in corner kicks.
Megan Tancredi (Newington, Conn.) had a pair of shots on net in the second half for Bay Path and freshman goalkeeper Alma Rizvani (Prospect, Conn.) made 16 saves on the day.
St. Joseph plays at Rivier in its Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener, Sat. Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.
