Soccer Blanked by Albertus

New Haven, Conn. -- The University of Saint Joseph soccer team gave up two second-half goals as Albertus Magnus defeated the Blue Jays 2-0 in GNAC action Wednesday afternoon at Celentano Field.

Albertus improved to 8-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the GNAC. USJ is 7-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference.

The game matched the reigning GNAC Player of the Week and ECAC New England Offensive Player of the Week, Shelley Mirmina of Albertus, and the reigning GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week and ECAC New England Defensive Player of the Week, Melissa Dodge (Watertown, Conn.) of St. Joseph. Mirmina had three shots, none on goal, but earned an assist.

After a scoreless first half, Danielle Polvin scored for Albertus at 52:56 and Amanda Roke added an insurance goal in the final 90 seconds.

Albertus outshot St. Joseph, 15-8. Dodge made five saves for the Blue Jays.

St. Joseph will look to rebound Sat. Oct. 12 when it hosts Mount Ida in a GNAC game at 1 p.m.
