WINTHROP, Mass. - Junior Amanda Ghent (Portland, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph soccer team posted a six-point week with three goals to power the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week with victories over league opponents Suffolk and Norwich and was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvias Women's Soccer Player of the Week for her effort, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It marks the first time this season that Ghent has earned the honor.
Ghent, a junior midfielder, powered the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week with victories over GNAC members Simmons and Norwich. Ghent netted three goals across the two-game span for a six-point week, including the game-winner on Saturday in a 3-0 victory at home over Norwich. She opened the week finding the back of the net in the 47th minute against Simmons on the road Wednesday to knot the match 1-1 in a match USJ would win in thrilling fashion in the 89th minute. Ghent then followed that up with her second multi-goal game of the season with the first two markers, both unassisted, in a 3-0 triumph over Norwich.
Ghent currently leads the team in points on the season with 14 coming on a team-high six goals with a pair of assists through five games. The Blue Jays sport an unbeaten overall record of 4-0-1 and sit at 3-0-0 in GNAC action.
Ghent and the USJ soccer team will return back to the pitch next on Wednesday afternoon in another GNAC battle at home against the Mount Ida College Mustangs. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
