WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph swimming and diving team concluded its regular season in a 150-128 dual meet loss Friday night to Western New England University at the Bruyette Natatorium.
Veronika Latawiec (Newington, Conn.) won the 50 backstroke and 100 back for USJ and was the Blue Jays' one double winner. Annmarie Masayda (Watertown, Conn.) won the 100 breaststroke and Luz Holmes (East Hartford, Conn.) won the one-meter diving for the Blue Jays.
USJ held a two-point lead after 10 events, but Western New England closed strong, winning five of the final six events.
USJ senior Elizabeth Kozlak competed in her final home meet.
"Libby was only with us for a year, but we'll miss her presence," USJ coach Brenda Straker said. "The enthusiasm, responsibility and commitment she showed demonstrate what kind of young lady she is and will be. We wish her nothing but the best going forward."
Latawiec won the 50 back in 31.43 and the 200 in 2:29.28. Masayda won the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.04. Rachel Mauthe (East Lyme, Conn.) earfned three second-place finishes for USJ.
Masayda, Latawiec and Mauthe will all compete at the New England meet at the University of Rhode Island from Feb. 12-14.
