Swimming Relay 12th in New England

KINGSTON, R.I. – A University of Saint Joseph relay team reached the finals and finished 12th Friday at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at the University of Rhode Island.

Gabriella Alberino (East Haven, Conn.), Rachel Mauthe (East Haven, Conn.), Veronika Latawiec (Newington, Conn.) and Annmarie Masayda (Watertown, Conn.) completed the 400-yard medley relay in 4:29.85 to earn its 12th place finish. The four had combined for a 4:37.08 in Saturday morning's preliminary round, which was 13th, qualifying them for Friday's final, during which they took over seven seconds off their qualifying run.

The four swimmers are representing USJ at the annual event which runs through Sunday. In individual events, Latawiec finished 18th in the 200 backstroke, Masayda was 20th in the 50 breaststroke and Mauthe was 24th in the 500 freestyle.

The Blue Jays earned 61 points in the team competition and are in 15th place.
