WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior Veronika Latawiec (Newington, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph swimming and diving team was named the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Women's Swimmer of the Week for the second week of the season, it was announced via a release by the NEISDA on Thursday.
Latawiec went a perfect 4-for-4, winning all of the events she competed in against Rhode Island College in the Blue Jays' season opener on Saturday inside Bruyette Natatorium to pickup NEISDA Swimmer of the Week honors. In individual events, she bested the field in the 1,000 free, 50 back and 100 IM. She also added another first place finish as a member of USJ's 200 medley relay team, swimming the breaststroke leg.
The Newington product touched the wall first in the 1,000 free with a time of 12:49.23 before posting a New England's qualifying time of 30.96 to top the field in the 50 back. She followed that up with another New England's qualifying time and first place finish in the 100 IM with a final time of 1:10.02. Latawiec swam the breaststroke leg of USJ's 200 medley relay team that combined to finish with a time of 2:09.56 and picked up a gold medal to open the dual meet.
Latawiec and the rest of the USJ swimming and diving team will return back to the pool next on Friday, Oct. 27 when they host the Blue Jay Pentathlon inside Bruyette Natatorium.
