Blue Jays Fall In Final Event To Plymouth, 140-138

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team came back from its annual Florida training trip with some intensity, but fell just short of a victory in a dual meet with Plymouth State University (PSU) Friday afternoon in the PSU Natatorium, 140-138.

Entering the meet's final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Blue Jays held a narrow 134-127 advantage. Needing to post the top time as well as at least a third place finish to complete the comeback, PSU rose to the challenge, finishing first and third to capture the overall.

Freshman Alexia Weir (Hebron, Conn.) led the way for the Blue Jays once again with three individual event wins in the 200 free, 500 free and 100 individual medley (IM). Co-captain and sophomore Alise Martel (Harwinton, Conn.) was victorious in the 100 free and 100 breaststroke, but it wasn't enough, as the Panthers dug deep and found a way to win by the smallest of margins.

The Blue Jays return to the pool for senior night on Friday, January 17, in a double dual meet with Westfield State and Western New England. The action kicks off in the Bruyette Natatorium at 4:30 p.m.
