Women's Swim & Dive Victorious In First-Ever Falcon Invite

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team took care of business Saturday afternoon, sweeping all three of its competitors in dominant fashion; Saint Joseph's College of Maine (SJC), Elms College (ELMS) and Albertus Magnus College (AMC), in the first-ever Falcon Invitational, held inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center, on the campus of Albertus Magnus.

Senior captain Shelby Cios (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was in a groove Saturday for the Blue Jays, taking the win in the 50-Yard Breaststroke in 35.62 seconds, over three seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer (nine swimmers in total). Cios also had a solid swim in the 200 Breaststroke, finishing in the second position. Freshman Ailey Driscoll (Bristol, Conn.) was right behind Cios in that event to get on the podium, while freshman Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.) took home the 200 Butterfly in a head-to-head matchup with AMC. Mamica touched the wall nearly 20 seconds in front (2:56.25). She was also second in one of the toughest swims of the day: the 500 Freestyle. Mamica finished runner-up in 6:21.46. Freshman Gabriela Targonska (Newington, Conn.) was impressive once again in her own right, taking a win in the 50 Butterfly (30.83), and a runner-up finish in the 200 Backstroke (2:30.98), just a second behind the leader. Targonska then put it in high gear with a huge win in the 200 IM late in the meet.
