Tennis Sweeps Bay Path

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph tennis team defeated Bay Path University, 9-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday at USJ.

The Blue Jays improved to 2-1 overall on the season and did not lose a set. Bay Path is 1-3.

Emely Chenard (Meriden, Conn.) at No. 4 singles and Tara Smith (Palmer, Mass.) at No. 6 rolled through their singles wins without dropping a game. Rebecca Mauri (Meriden, Conn.), Meghan Toth (Naugatuck, Conn.), Lisa Wawrzynowski (Newington, Conn.) and Serena Sundara (Windsor, Conn.) also won their singles matches.

Mauri and Toth paired for a win at No. 1 doubles, Wawrzynowski and Chenard won at No. 3 and Smith partnered with Monica Palmieri (Bristol, Conn.) for the final doubles win.

"The girls played well and we're off to a good start,: USJ coach Stacey Brown said. "It's a good foundation for what's to come."

USJ was playing the first of six consecutive home matches. The Blue Jays host Simmons, Sat. Sept. 13 at 1 p.m.
