Tennis Opens With 9-0 Victory

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The University of Saint Joseph tennis team began its 2015 season with a 9-0 sweep of Bay Path University Wednesday in a non-conference match at Forest Park.

USJ did not drop a set on the day. Junior Rebecca Mauri and first-year Lucy Roberge had the toughest tussle of the day before emerging with an 8-6 pro-set win at No. 1 doubles. Mauri at No. 1 and Roberge at No. 2, would also win their singles matches.

Sakinah Abdulsalam warned a win at No. 3 singles, Ashley Savino at No. 4 and the pair combined for a 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Tara Smith and Serena Sundara completed the singles wins for the Blue Jays and Smith paired with Leah Nguyen for a win at No. 3 doubles.

Saint Joseph will visit MCLA in non-conference play Sat. Sept. 12 at noon. Bay Path, which dropped to 0-2, plays at Becker Saturday at 1 p.m.
