WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman Emily McAllister (Bristol, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph tennis team posted an overall record of 5-1, going undefeated (3-0) in singles action and 2-1 in doubles play, and was named GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league front office on Monday afternoon. It marks the first GNAC weekly award for McAllister in her young career.
McAllister led the Blue Jays to a 2-1 record for the week on the tennis courts going 5-1 across three matches. On Monday in a 9-0 USJ win at Becker, McAllister didn't drop a single game winning 8-0 at No. 3 doubles before posting a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) victory at No. 5 singles. She followed that up with an 8-1 victory in doubles on Wednesday against GNAC foe Albertus Magnus and another 6-0, 6-0 straight set victory at No. 6 singles in a 7-2 USJ victory over the Falcons. McAllister wrapped up the week by coming from behind to defeat her opponent at No. 5 singles 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday at home against Suffolk to secure her undefeated singles record for the week.
The Bristol product currently leads the team with an overall singles record of 5-4, including a 3-2 singles mark in GNAC play. In doubles, McAllister sports a team-best overall record of 6-5 with a 3-2 mark in conference action.
McAllister and the USJ tennis team will be back in action next on Wednesday when they play their final GNAC match of the season in a win-and-in match at Mount Ida beginning at 3:30 p.m.
