Volleyball Splits in Maine

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Saint Joseph volleyball team earned a split of two-non conference matches Saturday at Southern Maine University.

The Blue Jays began with a 3-1 victory over Salem State (26-24, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19) before dropping a five-set match to host Southern Maine (17-25, 25-20, 12-25, 25-20, 15-4).

Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) had 18 kills and 14 digs in the opener for the Blue Jays. Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) had 28 digs and five kills for USJ and Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) and Samantha Edwon (Beacon Falls, Conn.) had five kills each. Eliazbeth Tuazon (Mystic, Conn.) had 14 digs.

Saint Joseph had a two sets to one lead over Southern Maine, but the hosts took the fourth set and built an 8-0 lead in the fifth on the way to the win. Perez had 12 kills for USJ and Amanda Dondero (Mastic, N.Y.) had eight. Vigue had 14 digs and five kills while Rebecca DiPinto (Burlington, Conn.) had five kills. Williams had 26 assists and Tuazon had 16 digs.

Saint Joseph hosts Anna Maria, Wed. Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
