NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph volleyball team was dealt a 3-0 loss in non-conference action by the MCLA Trailblazers on the road on Thursday night inside Amsler Campus Center Gym. The loss drops the Blue Jays overall record to 9-10 on the season, while the Trailblazers improve to 11-13 on the year with the victory.
The Trailblazers controlled the whole game throughout, taking the first set with a convincing 25-18 win. They would follow it up with a dominant second set, 25-12, before finishing the match off with a 26-24 third set win. The final set included a six-point comeback to cap off the sweep for the Trailblazers.
On senior night, MCLA was led by their two seniors Sam Anderson (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) and Allison Clark (San Jose, CA/Foothill Community College). Clark led the Trailblazers with nine kills while Anderson added seven. Anderson also added 10 digs with Clark adding seven as well. Freshman setter Tessa Sestito (Corona, CA/Valencia) had a strong performance for the Trailblazers notching a game-high 17 assists and also chipped in with nine digs.
Saint Joseph was led by senior middle hitter Cassandra Grimaldi (Manchester, CT/Manchester) with seven kills. Sophomore setter Brenna Miller (McCleary, WA/Elma) contributed with a double-double, her ninth of the season, notching 16 assists and 14 digs, while freshman Jasmine Buckley (Beacon, NY/Beacon) and sophomore Carly Ruzbasan (Torrington, CT/Torrington) also contributed for the Blue Jays adding eight digs a piece.
The USJ volleyball team will return to action next when they head to Rivier for a huge GNAC tri-match with the Raiders and the Albertus Magnus Falcons. The Blue Jays will first play Rivier at 11 a.m. before squaring off with Albertus Magnus at 1 p.m.
