Gomez-Hixson Finishes Second in 25-Team Meet

Dartmouth, Mass. – University of Saint Joseph junior Kaneen Gomez-Hixson (Wethersfield, Conn.) had one of the strongest showings of her career finishing second in a field of 285 runners Saturday as the Blue Jays competed at UMass-Dartmouth.

Gomez-Hixson covered the 5km course in a personal-best 19:43.40 and trailed only Caroline Ascherl, of Naval Academy Prep (19:38.08) at the finish line. USJ newcomer Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) also had a personal-best time, finishing seventh overall in 20:20.03.

The Blue Jays finished 11th of 25 in the team competition, won by Merrimack.

The other St. Joseph scorers, Mary Anderson (Granby, Conn.), Madison Boyce (East Hampton, Conn.) and Alyssa Vereneau (Newington, Conn.) all finished in the top half of the field.
