CHICOPEE, Mass. – University of Saint Joseph junior Kaneen Gomez-Hixson (Wethersfield, Conn.) had another outstanding run and was second overall and the Blue Jays were third of 11 teams Saturday as the cross country team competed at the Elms Invitational at Chicopee State Park.
Gomez-Hixson ran the 6K course in 24:28.3, trailing only individual winner Maggie Curlin, of Trinity, who clocked a 24:22.6. Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) added another excellent showing in her debut season, finishing fifth in field of 81 runners in her first collegiate 6K, in 25:02.2
Trinity won the team competition with 21 points and had five of the top seven finishers, with only the two Blue Jays keeping the Bantams from a top-five sweep. Lesley was second at 97 and USJ third with 101, narrowly ahead of GNAC rival Johnson & Wales (106) and Wheelock (113).
