SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – University of Saint Joseph junior Kaneen Gomez-Hixson (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished third of 141 runners to lead a strong team performance as the USJ cross country team competed Saturday at the Western New England Invitational.
Gomez-Hixson ran a personal-best 19:34 5K as USJ finished fourth of 16 teams. Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) continued an excellent debut season and was seventh in 20:10.
The next three Blue Jays to finish all were in the top half of the field. Mary Anderson (Granby, Conn.) was 45th, Madison Boyce (East Hampton. Conn.) was 55th and Alyssa Vereneau (Newington, Conn.) was 59th.
Two meets remain this season for USJ. The Blue Jays will compete at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Meet Sat. Oct. 31 at Standish, Maine and the New England Division-III Meet Sat. Nov. 14 in New London.
