Cross Country Competes at UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday

Dartmouth, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph cross country team finished 26th out of 37 teams at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Senior Kaneen Gomez-Hixson (Wethersfield, CT/Singapore American School) led they way for the Blue Jays on Saturday recording a 13th place individual finish out of 275 runners in the meet. The USJ cross country team will return to action next on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College at 10 a.m.

Gomez-Hixson once again led the way for the USJ cross country on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth invitational finishing 13th with a time of 18:46.75. She recorded a 6:02.7 mile pace to post her third straight top-15 individual finish.

Sophomore Mia Tompkins (Meriden, CT/Mercy) was the second Blue Jay to cross the finish line coming in 99th place with a final time of 20:23.52. She registered a mile pace of 6:33.9.

Junior Mary Anderson (Granby, CT/Westminister) finished third for USJ in 143rd place with a time of 21:12.49, while sophomore Madison Boyce (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) finished 173rd and freshman Charlotte Eberhardt (Thomaston, CT/Thomaston) placed 178th to round out the top-five runners for USJ. Boyce ran 22:10.03 and Eberhardt sprinted to a time of 22:23.37 for thier respective finishes.

Senior Alyssa Vereneau (Newington, CT/Newington) and junior Jessica Jordan (Wallingford, CT/West Woods Christian Academy) also ran for the Blue Jays at the UMass Dartmouth meet. Vereneau placed 192nd with a time of 22:52.06 and Jordan finished 229th with a time of 25:10.62.

Brandeis College won the UMass Dartmouth Invitational with a total of 99 points and a total time of 1:33:30.06 followed by Stonehill College (1:34:40.46) and Trinity College (1:35:34.67) to round out the top three teams. USJ finished 26th out of the 37 team field with a team time of 1:44:56.16.

The USJ cross country team will retuen to action next on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College at 10 a.m. before they host its lone home meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. in the Blue Jay Invitationial.
