WESTFIELD, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph cross country team wrapped up the 2016 season at the NCAA DIII New England Regional Qualifier on Saturday afternoon. The 6K meet was held at Stanley Park in Westfield, MA and featured 406 total runners across 59 teams.
Back-to-back GNAC individual champion, senior Kaneen Gomez-Hixson (Wethersfield, CT), posted the best finish for the Blue Jays at the regional meet. The veteran cracked the top-100 and finished 90th overall with a time of 23:14.17, averaging a 3:52.4 1K pace.
Sophomore Mia Tompkins (Meriden, CT) finished inside the top half of the field turning in a time of 24:44.70, good for a 197th place finish, and senior Alyssa Vereneau (Newington, CT) crossed the finish line third for the Blue Jays in 314th with a time of 26:56.39.
Freshman Kristina Petit (Plainville, CT) and junior Jessica Jordan (Wallingford, CT) rounded out the scoring runners for the Blue Jays. Petit finished 355th with a time of 28:32.81 and Jordan finished 370th completing the course in 30:02.79.
MIT won the meet with a team score of 68 followed by Williams (71), Tufts (77), Middlebury (149) and Bates (167) to round out the top-five. USJ finished 44th with an average team time of 26:42.18.
The NCAA New England Regional officially concludes the 2016 cross country season.
