SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Four members of the University of Saint Joseph cross country team competed in the Western New England University Invitational held at Western New England University in Springfield, Mass. on Saturday afternoon. The 6K race featured 98 individual runners and nine teams.
Junior Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) crossed the finish line in sixth overall with a time of 26:25 on a 7:05 mile pace. Senior Mary Anderson (Granby, Conn.) was the next USJ runner to complete the course, turning in a 49th place finish. She crossed the timeline with a mark of 30:51 and a mile pace of 8:17. Seniors Jessica Jordan (Wallingford, Conn.) and Paulina Koloda (Jaroslaw, Poland) rounded out the field for the Blue Jays. Jordan recorded an 80th place finish with a time of 34:59, while Koloda posted an 86th place result with a time of 37:48.
Westfield State won the meet placing its top-five scoring runners all inside the top-20 and finished with 54 total points. RIC (79), New Haven (89), host team Western New England (89) and UMass Dartmouth (128) rounded out the top-5 teams.
The USJ cross country team will be back in action next in two weeks when they attend the GNAC Championships in Bristol, Rhode Island on Saturday, Oct. 28th. The feature meet of the season is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
