WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joesph (USJ) men's and women's cross country teams were away this past Saturday at the Runnin' Monks Invitational hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine in Standish, Maine. The preview of the Championship course will be beneficial as they continue through their season. The USJ cross country teams will return on Friday, October 12 at the Suffolk University Invitational.
THE RUNDOWN - WOMEN
Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) placed second in the Runnin' Monks Inviatational with a time of 20:34, finishing behind Pearl Vercruysse from Emmanuel. She averaged an impressive 6:38 pace per kilometer.
Emmanuel claimed the women's team victory with 53 points, followed by Southern Maine with 78 points and the University of New England with 81 points.
FOR THE BLUE JAYS
- Senior Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) led the Blue Jays finishing the 5K with a time of 20:34 to place second in the Runnin' Monks Inviational.
THE RUNDOWN - MEN
Knox led the men's team with a 32:59 time at Runnin' Monks Invitational 8k, with a pace of 6:39 per kilometer. Following Knox, was Mario Manon-Porcella who finished at 34:43 with a pace of 7:00 per kilometer. Finishing up for the Blue Jays was Chameroeun Chhorn with a pace of 7:56 per kilometer.
FOR THE BLUE JAYS
- Freshman Eric Knox (Bristol, Conn.) led USJ with a time of 32:59.
- Freshman Mario Manon-Porcella (Torrington, Conn.) was the second USJ runner to cross the finish line with a 34:43 effort.
- Freshman Chamroun Chhorn (Danbury, Conn.) placed third turning in a time of 39:25.
The USJ men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action next on Friday, October 12th at the Suffolk University Invitational in Boston, Mass. The women's race is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. with the men's race to follow at 12:00 p.m.
