WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Tournament MVP Dreisen Heath (New Haven, Conn.) went 10-for-11 from the field including making all four three-point attempts and scored 25 points to lead Wesleyan to an overtime victory over the University of Saint Joseph 66-61 Saturday in the championship game of the 15th Annual USJ Tip-Off Tournament.
Wesleyan improved to 2-0 overall and Saint Joseph is 1-1. Purchase defeated Fisher, 58-40 in the consolation game.
With Saint Joseph trailing 52-49, USJ sophomore Brianna Ferraro (Waterbury, Conn.) made a dramatic three-pointer with 3 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. But Heath made a three-pointer 10 seconds into the overtime and the Cardinals never trailed in the extra session.
Amber Wessells (Montclair, N.J.) had eight points and five steals for Wesleyan and was named All-Tournament and Kendra Harris (St. Paul, Minn.) had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Cardinals.
Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.) had a team-high 15 points for Saint Joseph and was named All-Tournament. Mary Hyde (Derby, Conn.) and Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, Conn.) each scored 13 for Saint Joseph.
Saint Joseph returns to action Tue. Nov. 20 in an 8 p.m game at Bay Path.
