NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team dropped its second straight game by single-digits to fellow Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and intrastate foe, the Albertus Magnus College (AMC) Falcons, 70-63, inside 'The Nest'  Thursday night in exhibition action.

Freshman forward Jordan Ouellette (Bristol, Conn.) once again led the way for the Blue Jays with a game-high 17 points (8-17 FG) in a starting role. Junior guard Silvana Barcomb (Middletown, Conn.) had her best game of the season, equaling the game-high with 17 herself, hitting five 'Barcomb Bombs' (5-10 3FG) to keep the Blue Jays in striking distance. Junior guard Emma Pierson (Branford, Conn.) led the way for AMC with 17 as well, scoring her points off the bench while adding eight rebounds. Pierson was also 8-of-9 from the foul line.

Both teams struggled shooting from the field, but it was the Blue Jays who caught the free-throw bug this time around after Albertus struggled on Tuesday at USJ, connecting on only 8-of-19 attempts (42.1%). It was the difference maker in this one as the Falcons were plus-11 at the charity stripe and converted 19-of-22 (86.4%) attempts. Missed free throws down the stretch by USJ did not allow them to take the lead late despite putting themselves in the position to do so. With the game tied at 60 with 2:00 to go, the Falcons kicked it into high gear, using an 8-0 run to seal the deal, despite some late threes from Barcomb.

Score: Saint Joseph 63, Albertus Magnus 70
Location: "The Nest" | New Haven, Conn.

17 – The Blue Jays dominated on the offensive glass and outscored the Falcons, 17-4, in second-chance points. USJ grabbed a season-high 20 offensive rebounds.

  • The Blue Jays, who grabbed a season-best 48 rebounds against the Falcons on Tuesday night (18 offensive), grabbed 46 more Thursday night, outrebounding AMC, 46-40.
  • AMC was clutch at the line, shooting 19-of-22, including 11-of-13 in the fourth quarter (85%).
  • Saint Joseph made 9-of-24 from beyond the three-point line, a season high. USJ had made 10 threes total on the season entering Thursday night.

The Blue Jays will conclude their shortened 2020-21 season with a home and away series against the Bantams of Trinity College. USJ heads across town for the first meeting, Saturday, March 27 at 12:00 p.m. inside Ray Oosting Gymnasium. The rematch will follow on Sunday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. inside the O'Connell Center.
