Wildcats Run Wild On Women's Lacrosse, USJ Falls 20-10

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's lacrosse team fell to the defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) champion, Johnson & Wales University (JWU), 20-10, on the SMAC Lacrosse Field Saturday afternoon in the Blue Jays' conference opener. 

Sophomore attack Makenzie Dinger (Hingham, Mass.) was on point for USJ, scoring a team-high three goals. Freshman midfielder Ana Nogueira (Trumbull, Conn.) logged her first career multi-goal game, netting two in the setback. The Wildcats were led by the sharpshooting duo of senior attack Dani Lydecker (Valley College, N.Y.), and sophomore attack Kayla Datys (Warwick, R.I.), who combined to score 14 of JWU's 20 goals. Lydecker scored five of the first six for the Wildcats.

The Blue Jays were down 3-1 early, but the Wildcats caught fire in a hurry, landing seven of the next eight goals to take a commanding 10-2 lead. USJ was unable to recover.

18 – The Blue Jays struggled to get the offense going, firing only 18 shots on the day. The Wildcats had 23 shots in the first half.


 – Junior Nina Lestrud (Torrington, Conn.) saved five of 19 shots faced, going nearly 40 minutes between the pipes in a losing effort (1-2). Junior Silvana Barcomb (Middletown, Conn.) also saw time in the cage for USJ in the second half and made one save.

 – Freshman Emma Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) picked up her first win of 2021 (1-3), sending back six shots in a full 60 minutes of action for the Wildcats.

The USJ women's lacrosse team will conclude its two-game road stand with a trip to Lasell on Wednesday, April 7. The opening draw control is set for 4:00 p.m.
