DANBURY, Conn. -- The University of St. Joseph soccer team gave up two goals early in the second half as Western Connecticut defeated USJ, 2-1 Saturday in a non-conference game at Western.
Western improved to 3-1; St. Joseph is 2-2.
After a scoreless first half, Western sophomore Kelsey Chaco (Plainville, Conn.) broke the ice with a goal 22 yards in the 51st minute. At 55:11, Western's lone senior Ariana D'Aurio (Cheshire, Conn.) made the score 2-0 with her first goal of the season.
USJ pulled within 2-1 when Tiana Saraceno (Plainville, Conn.) knocked in a deflected shot taken by Patricia Nolan (Portland, Conn.) at 62:25 for her second goal of the season.
St. Joseph sophomore Melissa Dodge (Watertown, Conn.) made 11 saves on the day as the Blue Jays were outshot, 24-10.
The Blue Jays play their 2013 home opener Mon. Sept. 9 when they host Bay Path at 4 p.m.
