Tennis Team Opens Season

NEWTON, Mass. -- Saint Joseph College took two singles matches, but dropped a 7-2 decision Saturday at Mount Ida College in the GNAC opener for both teams.

Saint Joseph (0-2) began its season by losing a 9-0 contest at home Friday to Mount Holyoke.

Saint Joseph freshmen Lisa Wawrzynowski (Newington, Conn.) and Emely Chenard (Meriden, Conn.) each won their first collegiate matches Saturday. Wawrzynowski scored a 6-0, 7-5 win over Amy Warner at No. 2 singles and Chenard defeated Mel Smith, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Saint Joseph hosts Mitchell College, Tue. Sept. 13 at 4 p.m.
