Tennis Gets First Win by Downing Mitchell, 9-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph tennis team earned its first victory of the season by defeating Mitchell College, 9-0 Wednesday at Mitchell.

Meghan Toth (Naugatuck, Conn.), Lisa Wawrzynowski (Newington, Conn.), Amanda Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.) and Emely Chenard (Meriden, Conn.) were all double-winners, earning wins in both single and doubles. Toth earned a victory at No. 1 singles and teamed with Willhoft as the pair earned a win in the top doubles spot.

In singles, April Loteczka (Ellington, Conn.) and Serena Sundara (Windsor, Conn.) also scored victories, with each grabbing their first wins of the season. In doubles, Lindsay Tracy (Manchester, Conn.) and Delina Andrews (Thomaston, Conn.) picked up a point for USJ in the third spot. Sundara and Tracy each earned their first collegiate victories and Andrews got a win in her first match of the season.

Saint Joseph improves to 1-2 overall and Mitchell was playing its season opener. Saint Joseph hosts Simmons Sat. Sept. 15 at noon.
