Tennis Sweeps MCLA for Third Win
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph tennis team defeated the Mass. College of Liberal Arts 9-0 Wednesday in a non-conference match at MCLA.
The Blue Jays won every set in the match to improve their record for the season to 3-3; MCLA is 1-8.
USJ junior Lisa Wawrzynowski (Newington, Conn.) and freshman Rebecca Mauri (Meriden, Conn.) share the team lead with seven wins for the season after each picked up two more victories Wednesday. Wawrzynowski won at No. 3 singles and teamed with Meghan Toth (Naugatuck, Conn.) to win at No. 1 doubles. Mauri won at No. 2 singles and partnered with Emely Chenard (Meriden, Conn.) for the pairs' third win at No. 2 doubles. Both Wawrzynowski and Mauri have three singles and four doubles wins on the season.
Emma Allen (W. Granby, Conn.), who won at No. 1 singles, Amanda Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.) and Toth were also all double winners on the day while April Loteczka (Elington, Conn.) picked up a singles victory.
St. Joseph next plays at Johnson & Wales in a GNAC match, Sat. Sept. 28 at noon.
