Soccer Team to Hit TV
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The GNAC-leading University of Saint Joseph soccer team is coming to a television near you.
The USJ Athletic Department, in co-operation with the Office Marketing & Communications, recently completed negotiations to have one game broadcast by the CPTV Sports Network later this month.
The game, against the Coast Guard Academy, will be played Tue. Oct. 23 at 3:30 p.m. at Saint Joseph. There is no live broadcast, but the game will be first aired Thur. Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The game will also be aired numerous times subsequently, at times and dates to be announced.
“We’re excited about this venture into a new medium,” University of Saint Joseph Athletic Director Bill Cardarelli said. “It’s an excellent opportunity to showcase the University as a whole and also our student-athletes.”
CPTV Sports (formerly the Connecticut Sports Network) is a not-for-profit channel owned and managed by Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) that broadcasts sporting events including the state's high schools, state colleges that have previously included Hartford, Central Conn., Yale, Sacred Heart and Post, the WNBA's Connecticut Sun, the Eastern League's New Britain Rock Cats, the Connecticut Soccer League and many other sports including bowling, roller derby, equestrian events. The Saint Joseph-Coast Guard match-up will be the first Division III game to be aired on the station.
CPTV Sports can be found on Cable systems and channels: Cablevision 139, Comcast 185, 187 or 744, Cox 805, Charter 233 or 234, Metrocast 418 and Thames River 87. It is also available via over the air digital at: 24.3 (WEDH, Hartford), 49.3 (WEDW, Bridgeport), 53.3 (WEDY, Norwich) and 65.3 (WEDY, New Haven).
Saint Joseph is currently 9-1-1 overall and 7-0-1 and in first place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Blue Jays are riding a school-record 10-game unbeaten streak and are ranked 13th in the latest NCAA New England Division III poll.
