Baseball Drops NCAA Program Opener at Home to Nichols on Tuesday

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) baseball team dropped its NCAA program opener to the Nichols College Bison, 21-4, in a non-conference game at home Tuesday afternoon at the newly-built USJ Baseball Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays start their inaugural varsity season 0-1, while the Bison pick up their first win of the 2024 campaign and level their record at 1-1.

Junior infielder Ryan Shaw (Ellington, Conn.) recorded the first hit in program history with a single to left-center field in the bottom of the first inning and sophomore infielder Dom Scalia (Northford, Conn.) registered the program's first home run and RBI with a two-run blast over the left field wall in the bottom of the third inning. Shaw and Scalia paced the USJ offense on the day with two hits apiece.

Baseball returns to the diamond on Saturday, March 2 at home for a non-conference doubleheader versus Westfield State University. First pitch of game one between the Blue Jays and Owls is set for 11:00 a.m. at the USJ Baseball Field in West Hartford, Conn.
