Field Hockey Falls at WestConn, 3-1, During Season Opener
DANBURY, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team fell on the road at intrastate foes WestConn, 3-1, to open the 2025 regular season Sunday afternoon at Westside Stadium in Danbury, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays start the year at 0-1, while the Wolves open the year at 1-0.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- The game remained scoreless through the first two periods despite USJ generating significant offensive pressure with 11 shots, compared to WestConn's three shots.
- WestConn broke through in the third period when Reagan Schoen converted a penalty stroke at the 36:11 mark to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead.
- The Wolves doubled their advantage five minutes later as Ellenoire Schoen found the back of the cage off an assist from Reagan Schoen with 41:17 on the clock.
- The Blue Jays answered early in the fourth period when senior forward Aurelia Barker (Thomaston, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season at the 50:01 mark, off an assist by freshman midfielder Ella Schroeder (Canton, Conn.).
- WestConn quickly restored its two-goal cushion as Cassidy Nordmann scored unassisted just 30 seconds later at the 50:31 mark to seal the victory for the hosts.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior goalkeeper Jaci Felix-Hull (East Lyme, Conn.) played all 60 minutes in the cage for USJ, picking up the loss (0-1) after making eight saves.
- The Blue Jays outshot the Wolves, 25-15, and generated more shots on goal, 15-11.
- Both teams earned 10 penalty corners in an evenly matched contest.
- WestConn goalkeeper Jaden Kilmer earned the victory (1-0) with 18 saves, frustrating the Blue Jays' attack throughout the contest.

The Blue Jays look to bounce back on Wednesday, September 3, as the team hosts Gordon College. Opening draw against the Fighting Scots on the USJ Field Hockey Field in West Hartford, Conn., is set for 6:00 p.m.
