Field Hockey Tops Ramapo at Home on Saturday, 5-3

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team earned a 5-3 victory over Ramapo College in non-conference action Saturday morning at the USJ Field Hockey Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the win, the Blue Jays improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Roadrunners evened their record at 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Jays used a balanced offensive attack and timely scoring to pull away from the Roadrunners in a competitive matchup.

  • Sophomore forward Grace Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.) led the way with two goals, bringing her season total to three.
  • She opened the scoring in the first period at the 10:13 mark, finishing a setup from senior forward Aurelia Barker (Thomaston, Conn.).
  • Senior forward Isabella Pelletier (Weare, N.H.) added her second goal of the season just 47 seconds into the second period, giving USJ a 2-0 lead.
  • Ramapo responded with goals from Allison Tanasy and Kelly Zeman to level the score entering halftime.
  • Kociszewski struck again in the third period with what proved to be the game-winning goal 5:45 into the frame, this time assisted by senior defender Devan Fox (Granville, Mass.).
  • Less than five minutes later, Barker doubled the USJ lead, scoring her third goal of the season off a feed from senior midfielder Ariana Komonaj (Thomaston, Conn.).
  • Freshman forward Juliana Meglio (Watertown, Conn.) capped the scoring for the Blue Jays with her first collegiate goal 6:21 into the fourth period, assisted by sophomore midfielder Kaitlin Trudeau (Bernardston, Mass.).
  • Ramapo cut the lead to 5-3 with a goal from Ana Plaia—her second of the season—with just under six minutes remaining in regulation. However, key saves and strong defensive play down the stretch helped the Blue Jays secure their second straight win.

  • Saint Joseph outshot Ramapo 17-16, including a 12-11 edge in shots on goal.
  • Ramapo held a slight advantage in penalty corners, 9-7.
  • In goal, junior Jaci Felix-Hull (East Lyme, Conn.) recorded eight saves in 60 minutes of action to earn the win (2-1).
  • The Roadrunners' goalkeeper duo of Sam Fried and Emily Getz combined for seven saves.
