Field Hockey Drops GNAC Road Contest at Colby-Sawyer, 3-1
NEW LONDON, N.H. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team came up short in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Colby-Sawyer College at Sally Shaw Veitch Track & Field in New London, N.H. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in GNAC play, while the Chargers improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
The Chargers struck first late in the opening quarter when Brooke Farquhar converted off a penalty corner at 11:11, assisted by Taylor Gaudette. Farquhar added her second of the day early in the second period, finishing a setup from Cecilia Ponzini and Sophia McAdams to double the Colby-Sawyer lead.
In the fourth quarter, Kylie Walden pushed the Chargers ahead 3-0 with a goal at the 46:17 mark, assisted by Jillian Fredette and Luci Walden.
USJ broke through less than three minutes later when senior forward Aurelia Barker (Thomaston, Conn.) scored her fourth goal of the season at 48:42, set up by sophomore midfielder Kaitlin Trudeau (Bernardston, Mass.), to make it 3-1.
The Blue Jays applied consistent offensive pressure, outshooting Colby-Sawyer 15-11 and holding a 13-8 edge in shots on goal. Barker led the way with five shots on target, while junior goalkeeper Jaci Felix-Hull (East Lyme, Conn.) recorded five saves. Colby-Sawyer keeper Ashlee Blashock stood tall, making 12 stops to preserve the win for the Chargers.

The USJ field hockey team has a quick turnaround as it returns to action next on Monday, September 22 at home versus intrastate and non-conference opponent Eastern Connecticut State University. The action between the Blue Jays and Warriors is set to get underway at 6:00 p.m. from the USJ Field Hockey Field in West Hartford, Conn.
