Field Hockey Tripped Up by New England College Saturday, 2-0

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team could not break through offensively in a 2-0 setback at home versus New England College (NEC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the USJ Field Hockey Field. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in GNAC play, while the Pilgrims improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the league.

The Pilgrims opened the scoring late in the second quarter when Kacey McClay buried her fourth goal of the season at the 28:05 mark to give NEC a 1-0 lead at halftime. The advantage held until the fourth quarter, when Kira Geddes struck for her team-leading 10th goal of the year at 55:36, sealing the 2-0 result.

USJ had its chances, as shots were even 13-13 on the afternoon, and the Blue Jays held a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. NEC goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson was outstanding, stopping all nine attempts to earn the shutout.

Freshman forward Juliana Meglio (Watertown, Conn.) led the Blue Jays' offensive attack with five shots, putting all five on target, while junior goalkeeper Jaci Felix-Hull (East Lyme, Conn.) recorded five saves to keep USJ within striking distance throughout the contest.

USJ finished with a slight edge in penalty corners, 7-6, including four in the third quarter, but could not convert on any in the setback.
