Field Hockey Rolls Past Albertus Magnus, 6-0, in Morgan’s Message Game

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team delivered a dominant all-around effort on Wednesday afternoon, defeating intrastate and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Albertus Magnus College, 6-0, in a conference contest at the USJ Field Hockey Field in West Hartford, Conn. The matchup also marked the program's annual Morgan's Message Game, dedicated to raising awareness and promoting open dialogue around mental health in athletics.

With the victory, the Blue Jays have now won four of their five games to open October, improving to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in GNAC play. The Falcons, meanwhile, have dropped three of four to start the month, falling to 1-11 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

USJ's offense erupted early and never let up, scoring in every quarter and outshooting the Falcons 30-2 overall and 22-2 in shots on goal, while also holding a 20-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior forward Aurelia Barker (Thomaston, Conn.) led the way with two first-half goals — her sixth and seventh of the season — both assisted by senior midfielder Ariana Komonaj (Thomaston, Conn.), who tallied an impressive four assists on the day. Freshman forward Juliana Meglio (Watertown, Conn.) added her eighth goal of the season late in the second quarter to give USJ a 3-0 halftime lead.

The Blue Jays kept the pressure on in the second half. Sophomore forward Grace Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.) opened the third quarter with her team-leading 13th goal of the season, assisted by junior forward Gabriella Borruso (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), who later netted her second of the year off a helper from freshman defender Ruth Peters (West Hartford, Conn.) to make it 5-0. Sophomore midfielder Eryn Ross (Westminster, Vt.) closed the scoring with her first goal of the 2025 season in the fourth quarter, again set up by Komonaj.

USJ junior goalkeeper Jaci Felix-Hull (East Lyme, Conn.) earned the win with two saves in 52 minutes of action before giving way to senior Eryn Harvey (North Kingstown, R.I.), who completed the shutout for the Blue Jays in her eight minutes of relief. Albertus Magnus sophomore goalkeeper Ella Welton made 14 saves in a strong effort for the Falcons.
