Kociszewski Scores Four as Field Hockey Blanks Hartford, 4-0, on Senior Night

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team delivered a dominant performance on Senior Night, earning a convincing 4-0 non-conference victory over crosstown foe University of Hartford on Wednesday evening at the USJ Field Hockey Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the win, the Blue Jays improved to 10-7 overall, reaching the 10-win mark in back-to-back seasons and for just the second time in the program's five-year history. The setback dropped Hartford to 3-11 on the year and extended its losing streak to four games. The matchup marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Prior to the start of the contest, the USJ Department of Athletics held a special ceremony, honoring its graduating class for their leadership and contributions to the growing program. The Blue Jays recognized six seniors: Ariana Komonaj (Thomaston, Conn.), Devan Fox (Granville, Mass.), Isabella Pelletier (Weare, N.H.), Aurelia Barker (Thomaston, Conn.), Kaedence Brower (Hartford, Vt.), and Eryn Harvey (North Kingstown, R.I.).

Sophomore forward Grace Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.) turned in a record-breaking performance, scoring all four goals for the Blue Jays — the most ever by a USJ player in a single game. Kociszewski netted a hat trick in the opening quarter alone, striking at 7:03, 8:08, and 9:35, before capping her historic outing with a fourth goal at 54:36 in the fourth quarter. The four-goal outburst brought her season total to 17 goals and propelled her to the top of the program's single-season leaderboards for both goals and total points (36).

Pelletier assisted on USJ's first two goals, while Fox added helpers on the third and fourth tallies.

The Blue Jays came out firing from the start, dominating possession and outshooting the Hawks 24-2 overall and 19-1 in shots on goal, while also holding an 8-3 edge in penalty corners.

Harvey made her first career start in goal and earned her first career shutout, needing just one save to secure the victory. Hartford goalkeeper Carolyn Somers made 15 stops in a strong effort to keep the scoreline close.
