PROVIDENCE, R.I.  The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's lacrosse team led early, but ultimately took the setback Saturday afternoon against the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University (JWU), 14-9, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at the SMAC Lacrosse Field.

The Blue Jays relied on their go-to goal-getter, senior attackman and captain Owen LaPorte (Farmington, Conn.), who scored a game-high six goals. He is now in sole possession of first in the GNAC in goals scored (34) on the season. Sophomore attackman Evan Baden (Burlington, Conn.), sophomore midfielder Nicholas Grant (Berlin, Conn.), and junior attackman Matt Guerin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) also scored for USJ. The Wildcats went to their senior for support, the midfielder, Mike Muench (Maplewood, N.J.) who scored a team-high four goals to lead JWU to victory. The contest was all Blue Jays early, scoring the first six, but JWU rallied to net seven of the next eight to even the odds, 7-7, at halftime. Johnson & Wales was just a little bit sharper in the second half, as Muench scored two of his four to cap the third period and give JWU a 10-8 lead, a lead they would not relinquish.
