WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's lacrosse team fell at home to non-conference foe the University of Hartford (Hartford), 11-6, Saturday afternoon at the USJ Lacrosse Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays drop to 2-5 overall, while the Hawks improved to 3-4 on the year.
KEY MOMENTS
- After a slow start to the game, Hartford would open the scoring at the 5:14 mark, grabbing the early edge.
- USJ quickly fired back, as graduate student attack Kevin Carr (West Hartford, Conn.) netted a solo goal, tying the game at 1-1 with 3:53 on the clock. The score would hold entering the second quarter.
- The Hawks struck first again in the second frame, retaking the lead, 2-1, at the 11:38 mark.
- The lead did not last long though, as graduate student attack Evan Baden (Burlington ,Conn.) converted on a man-up chance, leveling the game at 2-2.
- However, Hartford dominated the remainder of the half, scoring four unanswered goals to establish a 6-2 edge at the break.
- The Hawks carried the momentum into the third, scoring again to extend the gap to 7-2 at the 10:33 mark.
- Baden put an end to the run 23 seconds later, scoring his second goal of the game, before rounding out his hattrick with another man-up goal at the 7:44 mark, closing the deficit to 7-4.
- Hartford would reestablish a four-goal lead, 8-4, with 4:09 on the clock, before graduate student midfielder Aiden D'Amato (Tolland, Conn.) found the back of the net with 22 seconds left in the quarter, closing the disadvantage to 8-5 entering the fourth.
- Sophomore attack Matthew Wurszt (Wilbraham, Mass.) would score for USJ in the fourth, but the Hawks tacked on three goals in the final frame, securing the win, 11-6.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Baden paced the team with three goals, scoring his third hattrick of the year.
- Graduate student defenseman CJ Denson (West Hartford, Conn.) hauled in a team-high four ground balls.
- Sophomore Christian Decker (Bristol, Conn.) caused a team-best two turnovers.
- The Hawks dominated at the faceoff "X", going 15-of-21.
- Hartford were perfect clearing the ball, successfully completing all 20 of its clear attempts, compared to USJ who went 17-of-24.
- Graduate student Trey McCann (Simsbury, Conn.) got the start in the cage, posting 18 saves.

The Blue Jays return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday, March 29, heading to Franklin, Mass., to face Dean College. Opening faceoff against the Bulldogs at Grant Field is scheduled for noon.
