WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team fell to Keene State College (KSC), 63–50, in the consolation game of the Morin Memorial Tournament Saturday afternoon inside Chandler Gymnasium in Williamstown, Mass. With the result, the Blue Jays drop to 0–5 on the season, while the Owls improve to 4–2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
USJ grabbed an early lead as sophomore guard Trinity Cruz (Windsor Locks, Conn.) knocked down a triple from the left wing to establish a 3–2 advantage. However, the Owls responded with a 12–0 run to jump ahead 14–3 at the 3:17 mark. The Blue Jays answered with a 5–0 spurt, featuring a triple from sophomore guard Sequoia Turcotte Briggs (Andover, Conn.) and a floater from sophomore guard Nevaeh Yorke (Norwich, Conn.), trimming the deficit to 14–8 entering the second quarter.
The momentum carried into the second frame, where USJ opened on an 8–0 run fueled by four points from junior forward Gjamory'a McTier (Palmer, Mass.) to retake the lead, 16–14, at the 6:38 mark. Keene State countered with a 9–2 stretch to go back in front, 23–18, with 2:50 left in the half. The Blue Jays continued to battle, as McTier sank a pair of free throws and a Cruz steal set up another Turcotte Briggs triple, cutting the gap to 25–23 at halftime.
The teams traded baskets to begin the third, with Turcotte Briggs knocking down a three-pointer to tie the game at 30–30 with 6:27 remaining. KSC then used a decisive 12–2 run to close the quarter and take a 46–34 lead into the fourth.
